Logo Design

The logo design was intended to include the "PT" for physical therapy, as well as an image of a person. The colors were chosen because of the representation. Green being a calm and relaxing color, and purple being a representation of friendship elicit the message that the patient is welcome to a relaxing, positive, and friendly experience. I researched other hospital logos, and found most of them to be simpler and more straight forward, less image oriented. As this project was likely for a pediatric facility, a goal was to add a "kid friendly" feel to the image of the person and the font.

The client requested a logo that included the color choices she had made, as well as getting her message across. The program was designed to be personable and to make the patients and their parents feel comfortable in their care. The logo was intended to demonstrate the ideas that a patient will receive care in a calm and relaxed environment, leaving them happy and feeling great. These were the starting ideas conveyed in the initial design brief.

The colors were very important to the client. She requested blues or greens to depict the person because these are typically associated with calm, peace, and soothing feelings. I presented several colors which can be seen below. The final choice was made because it was not only demonstrated a soothing feeling, but it was easy to compliment with the purple choice. The client requested purple because it represents friendship. Several shades of purple were considered as well, and can also be seen below. The final one chosen was bright enough to catch attention, but not so bright that it is overbearing. It also compliments the green very well.

The design on the person was important.because it was going to demonstrate the patient. The color had been chosen to convey a peace. We also wanted to show joy and happiness. Color can show this, but we found it easier to show happiness in structure. Hands raised in the air can show this. Initially the lines were clean. When the font was chosen, it was clear that the lines in the font were jagged. To have continuity in the logo, it was decided that the lines around the person were in need of a similar feel. This additionally gave the person a feeling of being sketched, conveying more of a childlike feeling. The font was chosen for the childlike feel it gives as well. The font seems to give this feeling because it almost looks like a child wrote it in crayon. Since the program was designed for pediatrics, the feeling that a child wrote the letters was important. The client preferred this font because it again caught attention and demonstrated the joy that comes with childhood.
